You're probably thinking the same thing I am...'What the heck is that?!' Well I tried looking it up on the Urban Dictionary and the Dictionary reference, but it's not listed. It is listed on an online dictionary of sexual terms, imagine that! It states: "To derive sexual arousal and/or gratification from making obscene, provocative telephone calls usually at random." Does that mean those late night telemarketer calls are really something else?
What is it?
Do you like calling random people from the phone book and calling them dirty names? It's all about obscene phone calls. People do it different too, from verbal abuse, confessing your naughtiness, hang ups, or heavy breathers (always fun!, but not to be confused with actual asthmatics). Some even go as far to start out slow and trick you into a conversation just to make it dirtier and dirtier. They do all of this while doing "something" to themselves during or immediately after the call.
Psychological Origins
Most people who have this disorder suffer from anger and/or intimacy issues that keep them from forming real life relationships. Some need to communicate and the only way they can is by phone, others just want to "play" with themselves to the sound of your voice.
Considerations
Today we are in the 21st Century...yep, caller ID! If you are dumb enough to keep calling the same number the other person can call the phone company and get your number in return and find out who you are. The phone company keeps a record of every call made even if you are a restricted number. Yep, they know everything! You might try enrolling yourself in some sessions of behavioral therapy to boost your self-esteem and kick the habit.
