The Fantasy
Is there anything finer than being groomed after a springtime ride in the park with your Master?  The soft brush against your hide; the gentle way he combs your thick mane.  Not one person failed to marvel at your perfect form while your Master sat proudly atop your back as you trotted by, envious that your Master obviously cares and loves you very much.  Your coat shining in the sun and your mane flowing in the breeze.  And to think for years you wanted a pony of your own.  Who would think you would love being one so much more!

What is it?
Well, there are three types of ponies:  riding ponies, cart ponies and show ponies.  Riding ponies are mostly men, but can also be women.  They will carry their owner on their back either on all fours or on two legs.  A cart pony pulls a small seating cart that their owner sits in.  A show pony is all show.  Usually a woman but can also be a man, the pony is groomed and shown in a graceful gait and receptive to all commands.

Why do you ask?  This is another form of BDSM.  Ordinary people will spend thousands of dollars to be groomed and dressed as a pony and led around by owners or their Masters.  It's almost no different than being a "pet" with a collar and being led around on a leash, this is just a more specific pet.  Special fetish shops will sell all kinds of equine or Ponyplay accessories such as boots with horseshoe bottoms, leather reins and bits, saddles, full head harnesses, and but plugs with tails coming off them.  Often times pony gear will look like regular bondage gear with leather corsets, metal rings, clamps, exposed breasts and genitals or some will be completely nude except for their bit and reins.

Ponyplay is pretty open-ended except for a few rules.  Ponies never break character during Ponyplay, they can not use their arms unless they are on all fours (because they will need them for the front legs), they will never talk back to the owner or trainers (because ponies don't talk), and they never talk about Ponyplay during pony play (that's where the no talking comes in).  Ponyplay consists of whatever is good for everyone.  The owner can spend all day grooming their pony, ride them around, work their pony or engage in hot pony/owner sex.

Psychological Origins

Why would someone want to do this?  Easy answer: for fun.  Like I said before this is another part of BDSM role-play.  Some people enjoy willful humiliation or owner allowed humiliation.  Others just like playing a noble steed and find nothing humiliating at all.  One interesting aspect is that the pony is respected and cared for by the owner.  In most normal BDSM games the dominant party (male or female) might actually be cruel to the submissive slave.  In Ponyplay the Master will treat the pony as he/she would a real horse.  It's possible that most people who are a part of Ponyplay are into the dominate/submissive role of BDSM but not into the cruelty aspects.

Consideration
Be safe.  As a 200+ lb man don't try to ride your 100- lb pony.  Often a trainer is employed to train the pony to act like a pony, all the proper ways to walk, respond, and even whinny like a pony.  Training could also involve weight lifting and cardiovascular workouts.  Balance is a huge priority since their arms are restrained behind their backs when they are standing on two legs.

As an added precaution since this is still a form of BDSM make sure you have a safe word and all parties be willing to participate.
